Supplying Essential Materials Since 1924
For over a century, we’ve been connecting customers with some of the most vital materials in the world. Our legacy in engineering and high-performance polymers is rooted in family values, technical expertise, and a deep understanding of the industries we serve.
1924 – The Beginning
Hardie Polymers was established in 1924 by brothers Jim and Graeme Hardie, originally focused on supplying core ingredients to Scotland’s baking sector. Today, Graeme’s grandson, Fergus, continues that legacy as our chairman.
1930s – Early Expansion
By the 1930s, we began supplying the UK’s growing rubber industry, acting as a sales agent for Anchor Chemical Company. This move into rubber laid the groundwork for our transition into the polymer sector.
1960s – New Leadership
The second generation—Bonar, Hamish, and Donald Hardie—took the helm during the plastics boom, guiding the business into synthetic materials. We were appointed UK agents for Revertex, a major supplier of rubber-based compounds for textiles.
1970s – Embracing Engineering Plastics
Hardie Polymers was among the first to work with engineering plastics as they entered the market. We supplied Cycolac™ ABS to major UK manufacturers like Hoover, Singer and NCR – a material still featured in our range today.
1990s – Industry Insights
During this decade, we worked closely with General Electric Plastics (now SABIC) as part of their UK sales team. This experience gave us a unique insider view of global materials sourcing and distribution.
At the same time, we expanded into equipment sales, offering injection moulding machines and auxiliary products from leading names like Demag Hamilton, Jenco, and Wittmann. This broadened understanding of moulding processes continues to shape our approach.
2000s – Specialist Direction
After exiting the machinery side of the business in 2007, we refocused entirely on polymer distribution. By 2014, our efforts were recognised as we became the first independent distributor in the UK to receive the Plastics Industry Award for Polymer Distributor of the Year.
2021 – A New Era
In 2021, longstanding team members Isy Ferguson and Bartosz Komanski led a management buyout, supported by Nevis Capital. Their leadership continues to drive the business forward.
Celebrating a century in business, we now operate from a modern headquarters and warehouse in Glasgow, Amsterdam and Dublin with a knowledgeable team and strong operational infrastructure.
Our relationships have always set us apart. Today, we serve customers throughout the UK and Europe – building trust, delivering value, and continuing our legacy as one of the region’s most respected independent polymer distributors.
